So who are they?

Kayla Ibarra (they/she) is a proud Chicana, multidisciplinary artist, and educator. As a theater artist they center survivors in all their processes, cultivate community in every space, and bring joy and levity through laughter. She is currently working to bring more of her activism into her theater practice with organizations like Planned Parenthood, metoo, and as a guest teaching artist with the Palefsky Collision Project. They are also a Fine Faculty award winning Instructor at Emory University (so fancy).

Kayla graduated from CalArts with her MFA in acting. They are one for the Co-Producers of SheATL, a sister festival to SheNYC that works to build community among and uplift the voices of women and nonbinary playwrights. SheATL works in partnership with Working Title Playwrights (WTP) to support playwrights in their new play development through the collaborative process. As an artist Kayla has worked with Alliance Theatre, Disney, Emory University, and the Hollywood, Atlanta, Asheville, and Indy Fringe Festivals. They also worked as an assistant director for The Last, Best Small Town at Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum and The Park at Emory University. As a Director they have worked on How the Grinch Reversed Racism [Atlanta, Asheville, and Indy Fringe]; Wild Parsnips & The Committee to Expropriate, A Revenge Fantasy for CCTA at Emory University. Yes, she does wear a lot of hats. No, they will not pick one. Their brain doesn’t work like that.
